Metro's Bill Norton given National Solar Certification

Metro Services, Inc. (MSI) announced today that Bill Norton, Vice President with MSI, has earned the designation of Certified Photovoltaic (PV) Installer from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).

The NABCEP PV installer certification is a voluntary certification that provides a set of national standards by which PV installers with skills and experience can distinguish themselves from their competition. Certification provides a measure of protection to the public by giving them a credential for judging the competency of practitioners.

The NABCEP PV Installer certification has been developed in accordance with the certification field’s best practices. Norton’s PV Installer Certification represents one of only 11 in the entire state of Georgia and one of only 12 in the entire state of Tennessee to pass the rigorous training and examination process administered by NABCEP.

“I am extremely pleased that Bill has worked so hard to achieve this highly technical and prestigious certification with NABCEP,” said Metro Services President Ron Speicher. “Bill’s certification, along with Metro’s commitment to move our clients into the most energy efficient environment as possible, provides us with the tools to be an elite source for building energy and HVAC operation, maintenance, control and efficiency.”

Metro received a Small Business of the Year Award for 2010 from the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce. Speicher is a UTC engineering graduate and LEED Green Associate, who supervises a team of 23 highly trained Metro employees.

Metro has solar power and solar thermal technology capabilities to assist businesses, consumers, architects and engineers in the research, design and installation of solar power and thermal systems, including available federal and state grant and tax Incentive opportunities. Metro Services, Inc. currently has several projects in various stages of completion, including a 33.6 KW commercial installation in Chattanooga, the largest PV generation system in the EPB service area, scheduled to be on-line within the next 30 days.

The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) is a volunteer board of renewable energy practitioners that includes representatives of the solar industry, NABCEP certificants, renewable energy organizations, state policy makers, educational institutions, and the trades. Each member of the board was chosen because of his or her experience and involvement in the solar energy industry. NABCEP’s mission – to support, and work with, the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries, professionals, and stakeholders – is intended to develop and implement quality credentialing and certification programs for practitioners such as Bill Norton with Metro Services, Inc.
