Jim Coppinger conducted the final meeting of the 2010 Armed Forces Day Parade Committee April 27 at the Navy Reserve Center.  After serving as chairman for two years, he expressed thanks to the committee members who "made my work easy."
Parade committee ends work with final reports which include data on reservations for 52 tables handled by Carl Levi, who will retired from that position with this year.
Bill Norton reported 64 entries in the parade.  The same route downtown will be followed this year, according to Sgt. Austin Garrett.

Final committee meeting April 27

Story and photos by Pete Chaney

The city that proudly calls itself the Most Patriotic City in America will continue the tradition of the Armed Forces Day Parade this year on May 7.  No other larger city in the country has continues the event each year since 1949 when President Harry Truman set the observance.

The Chattanooga Area Veterans Council took over sponsorship of the parade in 1994.  The first year in 1995 Veterans were honored with a different branch of service each year to be recognized.

This year the navy is recognized.  Grand Marshal and keynote speaker at the luncheon will be the highest ranking non-commissioned officer in the US Navy.

He is Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Rick D. West of Rising Fawn, GA.

Over 40 units have signed up to participate in the parade.  Deadline for applications has been advanced to April 27, according to application coordinator Bill Norton.
